Mark Philpott brings a wealth of experience and a diverse background that positions him as a valuable asset to the Gwinnett County Community Development Corporation. Born in Ottawa, Canada, Mark has a robust educational foundation with a B.Sc. Honors in Biochemistry and a B.A.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Ottawa. During his academic years, he was an active participant in extracurricular activities, notably excelling in high school ice hockey and serving as a student leader in Intervarsity Christian Fellowship both in high school and university.
Professionally, Mark has an extensive career in the oil and gas industry, where he worked with Chevron Corporation in various capacities. His roles included process engineer and operations manager, with assignments in over ten countries. He notably contributed as a plant design and project manager in Kazakhstan and held senior corporate technology leadership roles based in Houston, managing around 200 reports. His expertise also extended to serving as Chevron’s corporate Energy and Greenhouse Gas Manager.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mark has a rich history of leadership in nonprofit organizations. He has held significant roles in the Boy Scouts of America, numerous churches, and Family Promise, where his strategic development and leadership skills have made a substantial impact. His experience in strategy development, project management, and church small group leadership further exemplifies his commitment to community service.
Currently residing in Snellville, GA, Mark's blend of technical and business expertise, leadership experience, and dedication to community development makes him a pivotal member of the board.
